FDA Approves Standard Dosimetry Using Cordis CHECKMATE System

Cordis Corporation’s (Miami, FL) CHECKMATE Intravascular Brachytherapy System has recently been approved by the FDA for standard dosimetry in the treatment of in-stent restenosis. According to Cordis, using the CHECKMATE System eliminates the need for IVUS-guided dosimetry, increasing time efficiency while lowering cost. Chuck Simonton, MD, who serves as medical director of the Cardiovascular Research Division at Carolinas Heart Institute and the Sanger Clinic in North Carolina stated that, “This new standardized dosimetry for the CHECKMATE System simplifies the entire procedure for the person administering the dose. The fact that we are able to perform more procedures in less time and can reduce the overall cath lab expense for the procedure will have a positive impact.”
